Mark Smith

November 6, 1959 — October 8, 2025

Hurst, Texas

William Mark Smith, of Hurst, Texas, passed away on Wednesday October 8, 2025, in Dallas, TX. He will always be remembered as an amazing husband, father, poppy and friend to all that loved him. He was born on November 6, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas to Brooks and Carolyn Smith. Mark was blessed to have two amazing younger brothers, Russell and John to grow up with. Stories of their youth in the country would always bring a smile, and Mark lit up when he got to spend time with them as an adult. Mark was lucky enough to find his soulmate, Angie, early in life while at UTA. They married a short 11 months later and went on to have two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Amber. Mark took pride in being a wonderful father and husband, attending every event in his daughter’s lives, determined not to miss anything they did. His love of music started at a very early age with groups like the Beatles and Metallica. He played the guitar and often went to concerts with his daughters over the years, seeing artists like Polyphonic Spree, Motley Crue, Green Day and Alice Cooper. Mark loved fast cars, from Porches to 350zs and Mustangs, even in his late thirties he could be seen dirt biking on the weekends. Mark’s adventurous streak did not stop there; he went on to sky dive in his late forties while his family watched safely from the ground. He then took up scuba diving which went perfectly with his passion for the beach. Even when their daughters were young, family vacations were always at the beach. Whether it was a brown Texas beach or beautiful places like Key West and Dominican Republic, Mark loved the ocean. His last trip was to Hawaii with his loving wife where he found beauty and happiness and was able to scuba dive in one of his bucket list places. Mark was lucky enough to meet his 2 precious grandsons, Nathan and Silas Gibson. These little boys were a bright spot in their poppy’s life and even at the end, stories of their antics brought a smile to his face.

Mark is survived by his wife, Angie Smith of Hurst, TX, his daughters and son-in laws, Amanda and Tommy Scruggs of Bedford, TX and Amber and Bryce Gibson of Fort Worth, TX, his grandchildren Nathan and Silas Gibson, his mother, Carolyn Smith, his brother John Smith, his brother and sister in law, Russell and Tonya Smith, his mother-in-law, Diane Shaffer and his nieces and nephews, Chris Smith, Kimberly Tritten, and Cameron Shaffer.

He was preceded in death by his father Brooks Smith, his father-in-law and brother-in-law, Morris and Brad Shaffer.
