William Scott Hanle
November 1, 1948 – November 3, 2025
William Scott Hanle passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on November 1, 1948, Scott lived a life marked by kindness and perseverance.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Scott carried the sense of duty and discipline from his service into a long and successful business career. He held domestic and international executive roles with GTE and later Verizon, where his leadership and integrity left a lasting impression on his colleagues.
Scott earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and his MBA from the University of Notre Dame. A lifelong supporter of the Fighting Irish, he rarely missed a game and loved sharing that passion with family and friends.
Scott was deeply interested in military history and found inspiration in the courage and sacrifice of those who served. Scott also loved traveling, exploring new cities, and visiting historic sites – delighted to learn and explore the world firsthand.
A leukemia survivor thanks largely to his brother, Craig Hanle, who made a bone marrow transplant possible in 2013, Scott approached life with courage, gratitude, and humor. He was known for his sharp wit, his love of dogs, and his generous spirit. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in time spent with his family.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife, Jane Hanle; his daughter, Courtney Hanle; his son, Sean Hanle; his three grandchildren, Keaton, Reed, and Ari; and Beau, his faithful “granddog.” His warmth and kindness will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A private memorial service will be held for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Scott’s memory to Blood Cancer United.
