Wayson Miyanishi, born on July 17, 1963, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Violet and Edwin S. Miyanishi, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was one of four children and spent his early years growing up in Hawaii, where he built a life full of memories, friendships, and strong roots.

Wayson attended Kaimuki High School, where he was an active and dedicated student-athlete. He played football, ran track, and was a member of the powerlifting team. After long practices, he often looked forward to his favorite meal—a Big Mac paired with a saimin bowl from Zippy’s. Growing up, he also cherished simple joys, like his mom Violet bringing fresh baked goods home at the end of her work day from Love’s Bakery.

In 1989, Wayson moved to the mainland, where he eventually settled and built a family of his own. A proud father of three, he raised his children with a strong sense of discipline, responsibility, and core values. Known for his tough-love, traditional parenting style, Wayson was an intense and devoted father who always wanted the best for his children. Over time, he softened, especially when it came to his grandchildren, who lovingly called him “OG.” They became his whole world, and he found it nearly impossible to say no to them.

Wayson served honorably in the United States Army for 14 years. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and was often found doing yard work or staying active. In his earlier years, he frequently ran marathons in Hawaii. Despite his active nature, he was also a homebody at heart, happiest when surrounded by family. He had a passion for cooking and found great joy in feeding and caring for others.

He will be remembered as a helpful, giving man with a strong presence, a generous spirit, and a deep love for his family.

Wayson is preceded in death by his parents, Violet and Edwin S. Miyanishi; his sister, Geri Miyanishi; his brother, Eddie Miyanishi; and his beloved aunt Annie and Uncle Dudu.

He is survived by his children: David Miyanishi and his wife Kayley; Mailia Eckert and her husband Nathan; and Austin Miyanishi and his wife Kenzie. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Oakley, John Lee, Noa, Earl, Everleigh, and Micah, as well as the extended Foo and Johnson families.

Wayson’s legacy lives on in the strength, values, and love he instilled in his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
