Twila Spicer Meador

Twila Spicer Meador passed from this earth to her heavenly home on July 9, 2026. She died in the home of her daughter, Melissa Bousquet. Twila was surrounded by family and friends during her last days.

She was born Twila Dean Welch in Scurry County, Texas on January 10, 1931. Twila was born in the home of her parents L. H. and Beulah Welch. She had seven siblings though her oldest brother died as an infant. Twila was child number five among her siblings. The Welch family lived in many places in the state of Texas and primarily in west Texas. Twila graduated from Post High School in 1948 and was the salutatorian of her graduating class.

Twila continued her education at Texas Technological College (now Texas Tech University) and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1951 and Master’s Degree in Speech Therapy in 1953. She began her professional career in 1952 and met her future husband, John Dee Spicer, on a blind date. They were married on August 14, 1954 in Justiceburg, Texas where Twila’s dad was the pastor of a local Baptist church.

John and Twila moved to Fort Worth shortly after their marriage. Twila began teaching in the Birdville School District (BISD) while John finished his military service. Thereafter John, also embarking on a career as an educator, joined Twila in BISD. They each started as classroom teachers but quickly moved on to other roles. Twila’s career spanned being a teacher, speech therapist, educational diagnostician, and high school counselor. She was a member of various educational groups and received professional honors throughout her career.

John and Twila had three children born between 1957 and 1962 and were tremendous role models exemplifying faith in God, devotion to family, and profound work ethic. John died in 1981. Twila was 50 when John died and continued her career before retiring at the age of 60. She traveled a great deal after retirement. She met Al Meador during one of those trips and they fell in love. Al and Twila, both previously widowed, were married when Twila was 70. Al was a wonderful husband and step-father and died when Twila was 82. Twila lived until the age of 95. A huge thank you and love to the precious caregivers that took great care of her toward the very end of her life, as well as the nurses, doctors, chaplains, and aides from Bristol Hospice.

Twila is remembered for her strong faith and her love of family and friends. Her involvement in her church was a big part of her life. She taught women’s Sunday school at both Haltom Road Baptist Church and Birdville Baptist Church for most of her adult life. She also was an avid game player and reader. Twila was the epitome of a life-long learner. She was a wonderful mother and Nana to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Twila was preceded in death by husbands John Spicer and Alva Meador; parents L. H. and Beulah Welch; sisters Aileen Siewert, June Sales, and Jill Ramsey; brothers Nathan Welch and Leslie Welch (who passed only a few hours before Twila); grandchildren Vera Spicer and Dean Spicer; and nephews Jeff Welch and Alan Sales.

Twila was survived by children Connie Dickerman (Kevin), Melissa Bousquet (John), and John Dee Spicer Jr.; sister Buena Adcock and sister in-law Patricia Welch; grandchildren Amanda Ragsdale, Andrea Quillen, Stephanie Arar, Rachel McConnell, John Bousquet IV, Rebecca Burnett, Alex Spicer, Luke Spicer, James Bousquet, Song Smith, Anna Spicer, Emma Spicer, Drew Bousquet, and Ella Spicer; great grandchildren Charlotte Ragsdale, Rachel Ragsdale, Connor Quillen, Henry McConnell, Elizabeth Burnett, Leo Quillen, Jonah Quillen, Mazen Arar, Norah McConnell, Benjamin Burnett, Frances Arar, Elena Bousquet, Travis Quillen, and John Bousquet V.
