Thomas Ross “Tom” Goodson

October 1, 1942 – September 12, 2026

Thomas Ross “Tom” Goodson passed away on September 12, 2026. He was born October 1, 1942, and was raised in Hillsboro, Illinois, the son of Carl Walter and Nina Goodson.

Tom proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, including combat service during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he built a successful career and retired from ProDrivers, where he served as an executive for 25 years. He was hardworking, honest, funny and quick-witted, with a smart-aleck sense of humor that those who knew him well will remember.

Tom was deeply devoted to his wife, Donna, with whom he shared more than 40 years of marriage. Donna played a significant role in Tom’s faith journey, helping lead him to the Lord—a decision that would shape the rest of his life. Together, they built a marriage centered on their faith, family and commitment to one another. His love and devotion to Donna remained steadfast throughout their life together.

Above all, Tom loved the Lord. His faith in Jesus Christ guided his life, and he never missed an opportunity to tell someone about Jesus. He served as a deacon at South Euless Baptist Church and spent many years serving others through prison ministry, worship ministry and biblical counseling. He also served on a board of directors and as a worship director and singer.

Music was an important part of Tom’s ministry. He recorded and released two gospel albums, Calvary Is the Reason Why and Singing for the Lord. Whether through music, ministry, counseling or a simple conversation, Tom wanted others to know the Jesus who had changed his own life.

Tom is survived by his wife, Donna Goodson; his children, Jeannie and her husband, Preston; Johnny Goodson and his wife, Tonda; Adeline Gibson and her husband, Jeff; Natalie Sheldon and her husband, Dennis; and Francine Goodson.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Willie; Megan Brown; Nikki Lee; Caleb Gibson; Natalie Gibson; Sydney Prokes and her husband, Phil; Hunter Sheldon; Piper Sheldon; Nadia Goodson; Arianna Goodson; and Mya Goodson, as well as five great-grandchildren.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Walter and Nina Goodson, and his siblings, Carl, Tim and Reba.

Tom will be remembered as a hardworking and honest man, a proud Marine, a loving father and grandfather, and a devoted husband to Donna. Most importantly, he will be remembered as a man who loved Jesus, served Him faithfully and spent his life helping others know Him too.

His family finds comfort in the faith Tom lived and shared throughout his life:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
