Life Reflection of a Legend ~ Mother Theresa Finch Jackson ( Obituary)

In loving memory of Mother Theresa Finch Jackson, a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister, whose heart overflowed with love for her most precious gifts—her children and grandchildren. Her unwavering faith in God was the guiding force in her life, and her love for family knew no bounds. Theresa found immense joy in the company of her loved ones, cherishing every moment spent together. Her laughter echoed in family gatherings, creating cherished memories that will forever linger in every heart.

Theresa was born on June 10, 1946, from the union of the late Romeo Nessey and Gladys (Webb) Finch in McAlester, OK. Named after her aunt, her two older sisters (Harold Jean and Joyce Jackson) were excited to welcome her, a new beautiful baby girl. She accepted Christ at an early age and united with West Bethel Baptist Church in McAlester, OK, where her parents were Deacon and Deaconess.

Growing up in McAlester, Theresa attended L’Ouverture High School and served as a majorette and participated in many activities. While visiting cousins in Florida, Theresa was accepted into the prestigious Sunlight Beauty Academy of Miami, Florida, which was the first cosmetology school created for black students. She gained a reputation as being a very talented and cutting-edge beautician.

On March 4, 1969, Theresa was wedded to her former spouse of 31 years, Edward L. Jackson. From this union, they had 3 beautiful children Veronica Rochelle, Vincent Edward, and Vaughn Erick. She was a faithful member of Ben Washington Baptist Church, Irving, TX under the leadership of the late Dr. Joseph R. Sheppard for 23 years and employed by the Boy Scouts of America until retirement.

As a true matriarch, Theresa embraced life's adventures, finding excitement hitting the slot machines at WinStar casino to playing scratch-offs. Theresa was also a seasoned traveler, with a special fondness for the Island of Hawaii, the vibrant energy of Vegas, and iconic cities such as Paris, London, and New York. Her zest for exploration mirrored her approach to life—a tapestry woven with diverse experiences and rich memories.

Theresa's presence turned every moment into a runway, showcasing a blend of sophistication and individual flair. A fashionista, Theresa radiated pure elegance, grace, and style. Compliments followed her everywhere, from her impeccably styled hair to her exquisite wardrobe and her blinged-out cane—which later in life became a signature piece of her unique charm.

Theresa, a three-time kidney transplant recipient, embodied resilience. She generously volunteered her time to fellow transplant recipients and regularly participated in the U.S. Transplant Games of America, specifically in bowling. Theresa’s involvement showcased her enduring Spirit and offered hope to fellow recipients. She also passionately served on the Mother’s Board at her church, Dayspring Family Church in Irving, TX under the leadership of Bishop Kevin and Pastor Sonjia Dickerson, whom she had a great love for. Theresa’s commitment to faith and community demonstrated her deep-rooted values and her compassionate spirit touched many lives.

On Monday, January 8, 2024, at 4:19 p.m., Theresa F. Jackson peacefully transitioned from this earthly body into eternity at the beautiful age of 77 uniting with loved ones such as her parents Romeo and Gladys Finch, her siblings, Harold Jean Wortham, Joyce Ann Jackson, and Frankie Finch, and granddaughter, Angel Emelia Jackson.

Theresa’s legacy consists of her loving children: Veronica Rochelle Perry (Michael), Vincent Edward Jackson, Vaughn Erick Jackson (Dahlia), two grandsons Samuel Lewis Perry and Stephen Michael Perry. Also left to cherish her memory is her brother, Romeo “Sonny” Finch Jr. (Rosemary), sister, Sharold Patterson (Cecil), and brother-in-law, Huey Jackson Sr.; Special niece and family, Gina Rene Jackson (Gary), Gary Jackson II, Gabrielle Zakaria (David), Gloria Jackson, and Great-Great Nephew, Ezra; Uncle Wayman Hemphill (Celestine), Uncle William Hemphill, and Aunt Neomi Reed, Jackson family and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Special beloved note to the Dixie Chicks, Mother Dixie Caraway, Ann Harris, Janis Echols, Margaret Echols, and Nellye Dunbar. These women enriched her life with trips, birthday celebrations, and simply sharing wonderful moments together.
