Steven Ray Niekamp, 56, a great husband, great dad, and loyal friend, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025 in Hurst, Texas where he served the same community he grew up in as Chief of Police for coming up on eight years.
Born on January 24, 1969 in North Richland Hills, Texas to Eugene and Emma Niekamp, Steve led a life of quiet devotion, rich humor, and steadfast service. He married the love of his life, Angela, on August 12, 1989 and in June of 1990 he joined the Hurst Police department. Later that same year he and Angela welcomed their first-born child, Steven, and three years later their daughter, Sarah. For the next thirty-five years, Steve served his community with honor and integrity. As he progressed through the ranks, he was particularly proud of his time spent on SWAT, Bike Patrol, and in Community Services.
Steve was preceded in death by his father, Eugene, and his brother-in-law, Roland. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Angela; his children, Steven (Courtney) and Sarah; his mother, Emma; his brothers, Joe (Turia) and Dale (Betty); his sisters, Regena and Helen (Bryan); his nephew, Adam; and his great-nephew, Aiden — who will remember him joyfully as an incredible man who led by example and loved his family fiercely.
A celebration of life honoring Steve will be held on Thursday, September 25, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church (521 W. Pipeline Road, Hurst, TX 76053). A private viewing will be held the evening before.
