Do you remember the 21st night of September? Love was changin' the minds of pretenders. While chasin' the clouds away. Well, Sofia made sure we always remembered as well. Sofia of Hurst, Texas passed away on September 21, 2025 in Grapevine, Texas. For those of you that knew Sofia, knew the spunky, wonderful, amazing, light of life that she was. Sofia spent her life singing and dancing. If a song came on that she loved, you bet she was grooving to it. If she knew the lyrics to the song, she was going to sing. If you needed a pick me up, she had some joke lined up for you, inappropriate or not. Be careful if you came across a karaoke night, because Sofia was up there bringing the house down, dance moves and all. Sofia spent the last 14 months battling Stage IV Colon Rectal Cancer, but she never let that bring her down. At all her chemo treatments or doctor appointments she was cracking jokes and making friends. She always said that there was no reason for her to cry because she wasn’t going to let this get her down. She preferred to make jokes and secretly hoped that chemo would give her superpowers. We would like to think that the superpower that she did gain was her angel wings.
Sofia is survived by her parents John Edward Young Jr and Gloria Alejandrez De Young of El Paso, Texas, her sister Alicia Janet Young of Hurst, Texas and Austin Taylor Young of El Paso, Texas. Her wonderful dogs Drax and Quill. Her maternal grandmother Josefina Del Toro Garcia. By her Uncles and Aunts, Patricia Monahan and husband Herbert John Monahan of El Paso, Texas; Jesus Alejandrez Del Toro and wife Vicky Castañeda of Cuidad Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico; Francisco Alejandrez Del Toro and wife Donna Alejandrez of Cuidad Juarez Chihuahua, Mexico; Sara Alejandrez and husband Jose Aurelio Rodriguez of Nuevo León, Mexico; Miriam Morales of El Paso, Texas; Carmen Garcia Reyes of Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico; Noel Alatorre Muñoz of Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua; Kathleen Madary and husband Chris Madary of Fallstone, MD; Mary Procell and husband Ken Procell of Bel Air, MD; and Patrick Young of Bel Air, MD.
