Shirley Ann Marks Gilbert, 86, passed away at home on June 23,2026 surrounded by family and friends. Shirley was born on April 8, 1940 in Wortham, Texas to William and Ruby Marks. After her father’s death in 1948 the family moved to Alvarado, Texas. In 1956 she met the love of her life Charles Gilbert. Shirley graduated from Alvarado High School in the Class of 1958. Shortly after graduation on August 2, 1958 Shirley married Charles in a lovely backyard wedding in Cleburne, Texas. Their love spanned across seven decades. Shirley worked at the gas company until 1968 when the happy couple welcomed daughter Kristie. Returning to work in 1974, She held various positions at Redman Homes rising from accounts payable to service coordinator before her retirement in 1999. After that Shirley and Charles occupied themselves with volunteer work at their grandsons Andy and Scott’s elementary school, even earning the title Volunteer of the Year. Shirley was well known for her sense of style and interior design. She loved working in the yard with her plants. With her green thumb the yard and house were full of flowers and lush green plants. 

Shirley is survived by her husband Charles Gilbert, daughter Kristie Gilbert, grandson Andy McGuire and wife Bailey McGuire, grandson Scott McGuire, niece Robyn MacNab and many nephews and nieces. Services will be held on July 5, 2026 at Lucas & Blessing Funeral Home at 2pm. Lucas & Blessing 518 SW Johnson Burleson, Texas 76028
