Shirley Ethel Brogdon

January 28, 1940 — May 12, 2026

Euless

Shirley Ethel Brogdon, 86 of Euless, — a loving mother, grandmother, friend, and faithful Christian woman whose kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to know her, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

Shirley was born January 28, 1940, in Baltimore, the 16th child in a large family of 17 brothers and sisters. Growing up in such a large family no doubt helped shape the caring and selfless spirit that would define her entire life.

She later married the love of her life, Fines Dale Brogdon, on May 25, 1961, in Tulsa. Together they built a marriage founded on love, faith, loyalty, and commitment — a marriage that remained strong and unbroken until our father passed away on July 15, 1995. Now, after many years apart, Mom will be laid to rest beside him at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, reunited once again.

Together they raised four children: Paul Fines Brogdon, Wesley Dale Brogdon, myself, Jerry Wayne Brogdon, and Gloria Ethel Brogdon. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Amanda Brogdon, Fines Brogdon, Chase Brogdon, Lesley Carol, Lynsi Brogdon, and Lance Brogdon.

She is also survived by her siblings, RuthAnn Rowland, Elizabeth Tomasko, Barbara Grace, Andrew Tomasko, Deborah Moore (Garry), Richard Tomasko, Patricia Tomasko Stuckman (Keith), and Pamela Tomasko.

Some of my earliest memories of Mom take me back to Colorado Springs in the early 1970s. She worked hard to help support the family, including working at Sellows department store and at Sambos restaurant. She even attended junior college studying shorthand. But above all else, Mom devoted herself to being a full-time wife and mother — and she poured her whole heart into it.

No matter what hardships life brought, her character never changed. She remained kind, caring, selfless, and always willing to sacrifice for her children and family. Even during difficult times, she found ways to make her children feel loved and cared for.

What made Mom so special was not just what she did, but who she was.

She was a woman of deep Christian faith. She carried herself with gentleness and grace. She was never judgmental, never easily angered, and never someone who brought conflict into a room. In fact, it often felt like her kindness brought peace wherever she went. People felt calm around her. They felt accepted around her. In a world that can often feel harsh and impatient, what people saw in Shirley was rare.

Her grandchildren adored her, and so did so many others — family, friends, and anyone blessed enough to know her. Her smile and her laugh are things we will all miss deeply. Those simple moments — hearing her laugh, seeing her smile, feeling her warmth — are now memories we will carry in our hearts forever.

Mom showed us what quiet strength looks like. She showed us that love is not measured in wealth or recognition, but in patience, sacrifice, faithfulness, and kindness shown day after day over a lifetime.

While our hearts are heavy with loss, we are also grateful. Grateful for the years we had with her. Grateful for the example she set. Grateful for the love she gave so freely.

And though we say goodbye for now, we take comfort in knowing that her faith carried her home and that she is now at peace.

Mom, your love shaped our family, your kindness shaped our lives, and your memory will stay with us always.

We love you, and we will miss you deeply
