Sheryl Faye Jones

June 8, 1943 — June 3, 2025

Grapevine

Sheryl “Sheri” Faye Grabill Jones, age 81, of Grapevine, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. For 15 years, she faced every challenge with strength, grace, and her quick wit.

Sheri was born in Hasting, Nebraska, on June 8, 1943, to Lester and Myrl Grabill, who raised their only child to care deeply, work hard, and to find the joy in every season of life. She earned her nursing degree from the University of Nebraska, beginning a lifetime of caring for others. After taking time to raise her two children, she returned to school to earn her master’s degree in Occupational Therapy. Throughout her career, she served in many leadership roles, always combining her deep compassion with her quiet leadership, helping both her patients and her colleagues do better.

Everyone who met Sheri loved her. She had a generous heart, and once you became her friend, you were her friend for life. Even in her final days, Sheri was looking forward to traveling to Nebraska for the 60th annual reunion of her nursing school class this month. She never stopped cherishing her friendships or her love for life.

Sheri’s faith and church life were central to who she was. Her parents raised her in the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Hastings. For more than 35 years, she and Roger were members of Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas, where they raised their kids and where she served in just about every role possible. More recently they joined Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas. Whether leading songs at VBS, serving as an adult leader in youth ministry, volunteering in the church office, or acting as the head cook on countless mission trips, she never hesitated to give her time, energy, and heart.

She was also incredibly creative. An award-winning quilter and active member of the Bear Creek Quilt Guild, she poured beauty into every stitch. Her backyard garden was her pride and joy, and she loved being part of the Grapevine Garden Club, even serving a term as club president. If she wasn’t quilting or gardening, she was likely doing needlepoint, cross-stitch, or even weaving. She was always creating something beautiful.

She and Roger were married on September 23, 1966, and shared nearly 59 wonderful years together. They traveled, laughed, and enjoyed life’s simple moments side by side. But nothing brought her more joy than her family, especially keeping up with the adventures of her three grandsons.

She is survived by her husband Roger; her son Jeff and his wife DeDe, and their son Owen; her daughter Kristi and her husband Phil, and their sons Jeremy and Adam; and many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Myrl Grabill, as well as many dearly loved aunts and uncles.

A service to celebrate Sheri’s life will be held on June 21 at 11:00 a.m. at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The International Myeloma Foundation tinyurl.com/SheriTX in honor of Sheri, a 15-year survivor of Multiple Myeloma.

The family is forever grateful for the care and support of Dr. Larry Anderson, his team, and all the doctors, nurses, techs and staff at UT Southwestern who treated Sheri with dignity and care throughout her journey.

Sheri’s life was full of love, laughter, and friendship, and she made sure to share plenty of all three with everyone she met.
