Shamindra Lakshitha Fernando, age 54, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, after a courageous journey with metastatic pancreatic cancer.
Shamindra was born on June 8, 1971, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, to Chitra Fernando and Rev. Lucian Godfrey Bernard Fernando, both of whom preceded him in death. In 1991, he immigrated to the United States from Sri Lanka, beginning a new chapter of his life with the prayers and blessings of his devoted mother. He carried her faith and encouragement with him always.
He pursued higher education with dedication, earning his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington, followed by an MBA from the University of Dallas. Shamindra built a respected career in the financial sector, working with Bio-Synthesis Inc, AG Edwards, TD Ameritrade, and ultimately Charles Schwab, where he concluded his professional journey.
On August 26, 2000, Shamindra married Kim Nguyen, with whom he shared a loving and faithful marriage. They have a son named Luchiano Fernando. Shamindra was a devoted husband and a loving father, deeply cherishing his role within his family.
Above all, Shamindra’s life was rooted in his profound love for the Lord Jesus Christ. A devout Catholic, he prayed the Rosary daily and longed to see the face of God. He held special devotion to the saints, particularly St. Padre Pio and St. Sharbel of Lebanon, with whom he felt a deep spiritual closeness. Even in illness, Shamindra praised the Lord for every day he was given, offering his suffering with faith and gratitude.
He was a light to those around him, especially within his parish community. A member of the choir with a beautiful voice, Shamindra loved sacred music and joyfully served in parish ministries. His faith was lived quietly but powerfully, touching all who knew him.
Shamindra is survived by his beloved wife, Kim Nguyen and his fondest son, Luchiano Fernando; his oldest brother, Johann Fernando with wife Chenjing & their children Liezl & Madeleine; his 2nd older brother, Dihan Fernando with wife Roshana & their children Romali & Natalie; and his older sister, Roshanara Fernando with husband Dilip & their child Dinara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chitra Fernando and Rev. Lucian Godfrey Bernard Fernando.
Visitation and service information will be on February 1st, 2026 at 10:00 AM followed by a the Rosary at 11:30 AM and 12 PM Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity orministry meaningful to the family such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (Donate).
Shamindra Lakshitha Fernando will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his faith, his kindness, and the light he brought into the lives of others.
