Robert Milton Newton Jr.

November 1, 1945 — October 23, 2024

Robert “Bob” Newton, 78, of North Richland Hills, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 23, surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 1, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, to Robert M. Newton, Sr. and Dora Carney Newton, Bob grew up in Grand Prairie and went on to pursue his education at Arlington State College, later becoming part of the University of Texas at Arlington.

A proud veteran, Bob served his country in the U.S. Army. During his military service, he married the love of his life, Cheryl Ferguson, on December 20, 1969, and together they built a beautiful life. Throughout his career, Bob lived in various places, including Fort Hood, Levelland, Austin, Minneapolis, New Orleans and eventually settled in North Richland Hills.

Bob dedicated his professional life to serving others, working for the State of Texas, Al Hughes Ambulatory Hospital, United Health Care, and Ochsner Health. Later in life, he found a new calling in education, teaching government and history at Haltom High School for Birdville ISD.

Above all, Bob cherished his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl, and their three daughters, Kristin Perry (married to Bryan Perry), Emily Snow (married to Wayne Snow), and Kendra Schalk (married to Ben Schalk). Bob was a devoted grandfather to six grandchildren: Hayden Perry, Mackenzie Perry, Farrah Snow, River Snow, Astoria Schalk, and Harold Schalk.

He is also survived by his sister Donna McGibboney (married to Don McGibboney) of Azle, Texas. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters, Ann Tackett, and Nell Carney.

Bob was a man of deep faith, an active member of his church where he played handbells and sang in the choir. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community.

Visitation is Tuesday at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas, and the funeral is Wednesday at noon at Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst. A burial service will be held in Tolar, Texas, where Bob will be laid to rest.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Peace Lutheran Church of Hurst in honor of music ministry, in Bob’s memory.
