Robert (Bob) E. McDuff, 78, of Hurst, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on January 27, 2026. Bob was born Robert Calloway Taylor, Jr., in Macon, Georgia, on January 2, 1948, the son of Robert Taylor, who died in 1953, and Minta Del Thompson. In 1959, he was adopted by Minta Del's second husband, Bill Earl McDuff, and he took the name Robert Earl McDuff.
The family moved to Arkansas and then Texas, eventually settling in the Fort Worth area, where Bob graduated from Lawrence D. Bell High School and attended the University of Texas at Arlington. He served the country in Vietnam as a handler with the US Army’s Military Working Dog program (the Canine Corps), reaching the rank of sergeant. After the war, he worked for many years in the Austin area as an irrigation engineer and a rural mail carrier. He later returned to Hurst and took care of his mother, who passed away in 2016. Bob was an avid builder, collector, and flyer of RC (radio-controlled) aircraft. One of his greatest passions, and the source of many cherished friendships and experiences, was his participation in the Greater Southwest Aero Modelers of Fort Worth, a branch of the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Bob served as treasurer for the organization, which gave him joy, support, and camaraderie for over two decades. We will always remember Bob for his abundant wit and good humor, his generosity and devotion to family and friends, and his aptitude for all things mechanical.
He is survived by many cousins and extended family members.
A memorial service for Bob will begin at 10:30 am on February 23, 2026 at Lucas Funeral Home, 1321 Precinct Line Rd, Hurst, Texas. Attendees are welcome to follow us afterward to the graveside service at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, located at 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy in Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider donating in Bob's memory to the Warrior Dog Foundation.
