Robert Patrick Arber

September 11, 1932 — January 18, 2026

Euless, TX

Robert Patrick Arber, 93, of Euless, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 11, 1932, in Cape Town, South Africa, Bob was the son of George W. Arber and Elizabeth F. Van Rensburg Arber. He graduated from Wellington Boarding School in Wellington, South Africa, and later earned a degree in Theology from the South African Bible Institute in Brakton.

In 1949, Bob joined the South African Army, serving honorably until his discharge in 1951.

Bob married Dorothy Joy Mullan in South Africa, with her father, Pastor William Mullan, officiating. Bob and Joy shared fifty devoted years of marriage until her passing on October 26, 2005. He later married Joanna Westlake, who remained by his side until his final day.

Before entering ministry, Bob lived a remarkably diverse and adventurous life. He worked as an engine fitter on trains, served as a traffic officer, and even worked as an auctioneer. He loved the ocean and enjoyed spearfishing, and he was an avid cyclist. In 1953, he trained with great promise for the Olympics. Yet, sensing God’s call, he made the life‑changing decision to set aside his Olympic aspirations and dedicate his life to preaching.

A devoted member of the Assemblies of God, Bob’s calling was to pioneer churches. He faithfully established numerous congregations throughout South Africa and surrounding regions, leaving a legacy of unwavering faith, obedience, and service to God. Known affectionately as Oupa, Papa Bob, and Granddad, he touched countless lives with his compassion, humility, and steadfast commitment to ministry.

In 1980, Bob and his family immigrated to the United States, where he continued his pastoral work—leading churches, strengthening congregations, and restoring ministries in need.

Bob is survived by his wife, Joanna; his children Shane Arber, Lorne (Tish) Arber, Kevin (Karen) Arber, Melody Long (Gary), and William (Sheila) Arber; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great‑grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joy, and his parents, Elizabeth and George Arber.

A visitation will be held Thursday, January 22, from 10:00–11:00 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home, 700 W. Wall Street, Grapevine, TX.

The funeral service will follow at 12:00 p.m. at The Petra Church, 2115 N. Denton Highway, Carrollton, TX.
