Richard Alan Douthit, age 80, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and deep devotion to family and friends.

Born on April 3, 1945, in Bradford, Pennsylvania, Richard was the son of Clifford and Ruth Radaker Douthit. He grew up in Bradford and graduated from Bradford Area High School with the Class of 1963.

Shortly after graduation, Richard answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. Trained as a machinist, he served bravely aboard a river gunboat, where he routinely faced enemy gunfire while on patrol. His courage and dedication during this time reflected the strength of character he carried throughout his life.

On November 28, 1970, Richard married the love of his life, Sandra K. Lucco, at St. Patrick’s Church in Limestone, New York. Together they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family.

Richard was a longtime and active member of American Legion Post #1560 in Limestone, New York, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, and a devoted member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas. He spent 41 years working at the American Refining Group in Bradford, Pennsylvania, retiring in 2010 after a dedicated and respected career.

An avid outdoorsman, Richard found great joy in hunting and fishing. He especially cherished hunting behind his home in Limestone with family and friends and fishing on Lake Chautauqua. Many of his happiest moments were spent during summers at the lake, creating lasting memories with those he loved.

Richard will be remembered most for his ability to find the good in everyone. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went, leaving a lasting impression through his warmth, humor, and genuine kindness. Above all, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas Seel Douthit, Sr.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Douthit; his sons, Brian (Michelle) Douthit of Homestead, Florida, and Jon (Samantha) Douthit of Fort Worth, Texas; his cherished grandchildren, Rhett Douthit, Cole Douthit, Allison Horne, and Nicholas York; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Gaye Nickels of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, a special cousin Judy Bryan of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania along with several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Richard’s life was one of quiet strength, unwavering love, and meaningful connections. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
