Rex Lee English, a cherished soul who graced this world with his presence, was born on October 20, 1937, on a tranquil farm near the South Canadian River in Dewey County, Oklahoma. His formative years were spent in this idyllic setting, where he began his educational journey at Taloga, later continuing in the Parallel District until its dissolution led him to complete his studies at Putnam, from which he graduated in the class of 1956.
Upon completing high school, Rex dedicated his summer to the Texas Highway Department. His pursuit of knowledge took him next to Oklahoma A&M for a semester, followed by a brief tenure at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, where he balanced his studies with a role at the Plainview Police Department. Subsequently, he lent his expertise to the Texas Highway Department, contributing to the engineering sector through his oversight of highway construction projects and surveying efforts.
On April 4, 1958, Rex married the love of his life, Faye Grizzell, and together they welcomed their beloved daughter, Deanne. His commitment to service led him to the Army, where he proudly served at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for two years. Although he aspired to serve overseas, he remained stationed at Fort Sill, where he completed his military service.
Following his honorable discharge, Rex resumed his career with the Texas Highway Department, while also engaging briefly with the Oklahoma Highway Department and working as a cross-country truck driver. His heart expanded once more when he married Gloria Daniel on September 24, 1971, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. In 1975, they settled in Fort Worth, where they joyously adopted a son, Roy Lee. After a commendable career, Rex retired from TxDOT, marking the culmination of a long and fulfilling journey in highway construction.
Rex's beloved wife, Gloria, who stood by his side for 42 years, passed away in 2012. In 2017, he found love anew with Agnes Burnett, who remains at his side. Along with Agnes, Rex is survived by his daughter, Deanne Richey, and her husband, Glen; his son, Roy Lee; and his cherished grandson, Reece Kinkade, along with his wife, Yxkra.
