Peter Thomas Standbridge, born on March 30, 1934, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, in Southlake, Texas. He was a dedicated family man and a distinguished professional whose career spanned over four decades in the insurance industry.

Peter began his career with Kemper Insurance in 1955 and devoted 41 years to the company, retiring in 1996 as Executive Vice President and Manager of the Personal Lines Business. His ascent within the organization was marked by roles that included Field Representative, Regional Office Manager, Division Sales Manager, Special Corporate Planning Officer, and Corporate Vice President and Marketing Manager. Notably, he contributed significantly to the greater insurance community by serving on the boards of Kemper Coventry Mutual, American Manufacturers Mutual, and the American Motorists Insurance Company, and was active on various industry boards aimed at shaping the future of insurance.

A graduate of Norristown High School, Peter was subsequently inducted into the Norristown High School Hall of Fame. He earned a degree in governmental studies from Lafayette College in 1955, where he was a life-long member of the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. Furthering his education, he completed the Executive Program at the Stanford University Business School in 1978.

Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, fulfilling his duty primarily in the Chemical Corps at stations including Fort Dix, Fort Bragg, and in Germany.

Throughout his life, Peter was known for his kindness and welcoming nature. He met his beloved wife, Jean, on a blind date in 1956, and they married just six months later. The couple would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in September 2026. Peter provided his family with a diverse upbringing, having lived in Plainfield, New Jersey; Richmond, Virginia; Syracuse, New York; Basking Ridge, New Jersey; Barrington, Illinois, Savannah, Georgia; Aiken, South Carolina; and Southlake, Texas; and abroad in Germany.

He was a passionate golfer, achieving the remarkable feat of scoring four holes-in-one throughout his endeavors on the course. He served on the Executive Committee of the Kemper Open PGA Golf Tournament, as well as on the Executive Committee of the 1989 PGA Golf Championship in Long Grove, Illinois. One of his proudest moments was presenting the Winner's Trophy at one of the Kemper Open tournaments.

Peter's extensive contributions extended beyond his career in insurance to the community, where he held several prominent positions, including Chairman of the Lafayette Marquis Society, a member of the Lafayette Board of Trustees and an elected village trustee in Manlius, New York, He served on the Governing Board of Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Illinois, and was the Chairman of the Wall of Life at Good Shepherd Hospital. He also directed efforts at the Savannah Georgia Runaway Home, in addition to being a member and director of the Savannah Georgia Golden K.

Peter also played an important role within the Episcopal Church by serving as a senior Warden at St. Mark’s Episcopal in Barrington, Illinois and as a Vestry Member at Christ Church in Manlius, New York.

He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Jean Standbridge; son, Kevin Standbridge and his spouse, Sharon; son, Keith Standbridge and his spouse Marybeth; a daughter Kathryn Davidson and her spouse Buzz; and Steve Standbridge and his spouse Christine; along with eight grandchildren and expecting one great-grandchild that is due in July 2026.

He was preceded in death by his father, Henry K Standbridge; mother, Helen Ballard; his aunt, Dorothy Ballard, and his brother, George Ballard Standbridge.

Peter Thomas Standbridge will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for his warmth, generosity, and the deep love he had for his family. His legacy will be cherished by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 14, at St. Laurence Church in Southlake. A luncheon reception will immediately follow the service. Friends and family are invited to a brief visitation prior to the service at 10:00 am on the 14th at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the St. Laurence Church Anglican Diocese of Northern Malawi Fund or to the St. Laurence Church Building Fund.
