Pearl Juanita Owens Ford was born on January 16,1937 in Richmond, Virginia, to Hattie and Benjamin Owens. As an only child, she was never short on love. She had many strong influences in her youth, including her parents, her grandmother, and numerous relatives. The friends she made in her neighborhood growing up stayed friends for life. She loved their children as if they were her own.
Pearl was married to Isaac Ambrose Ford for more than 62 years. They met while attending Hampton University in Virginia. He preceded her in death six years ago. They had a rich marriage, and she frequently spoke about the early days and the many amusing things that happened along the way. Growing up with both parents in the household was a blessing for their daughter, Juanita, and son, John-David, who passed in January of this year.
In addition to sharing her knowledge, wisdom, and counsel, Pearl generously shared her resources. She supported her church, her alma mater, and many organizations. Young people held a special place in her heart. For several decades, she provided multi-year scholarships to countless college students. The Fort Worth/Tarrant County ACT-SO program benefited from both her educational expertise and her donations. She was a life long member of the NAACP
Her contributions were extensive. Her impact, immeasurable.
