Paul Franklin Runkles, 81, of Grapevine, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2026.
Born on March 19, 1944, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Paul built a life rooted in loyalty, grit, humor, and love. He was a devoted husband to Karen “Annie” Webeck Runkles for 40 wonderful years and a proud father to Jason and Tina.
Paul spent 44 years as a Crew Chief for American Airlines, where he earned a reputation as someone you could always count on. He believed in showing up, doing the job right, and never cutting corners. He was a straight shooter with a sharp, sarcastic wit, the kind of man who told you exactly what he thought, but somehow made you laugh while he did it. He gave advice without judgment, stood by his word, and worked harder than anyone in the room.
He was a lifelong, unwavering fan of the San Francisco 49ers. He never missed a game — and he never stayed quiet during one. Whether they were dominating or driving him crazy, everyone within earshot knew exactly how he felt about their performance. His loyalty never wavered, even if his commentary got a little loud. Sundays were for the Niners, and he made sure the whole house knew it.
Paul loved going to the movies, enjoying good Mexican food, and most of all, spending time with his family. His greatest pride was the family he built and the work ethic he instilled in them.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Annie; his son, Jason, and daughter-in-law, Misty Runkles; his daughter, Tina, and son-in-law, Eric Tamayo; and his cherished grandchildren: Lauren, Brittany, and Paige Tamayo; and Rebecca, Victoria, Christopher, and Shawn Runkles; and great granddaughter Charley Tamayo.
Dad, we will miss you immensely. Because of you, we carry an unshakable work ethic, a deep love for family, and a lifelong devotion to the Niners. We will forever keep you in our hearts and we’ll always hear your voice reminding us to keep it simple, work hard, and tell it like it is.
