Nancy Louise Garnersmith Myers beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away March 17, 2025, with family by her side. She was born on November 12, 1932 in Evanston, Illinois, and led a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Nancy attended Miami and Northwestern Universities and ultimately earned her degree from Sophia University in Japan. She married the love of her life, Francis Joseph Myers, and together they built a wonderful life, sharing 62 years of marriage until his passing in December 2019.They raised their children with love and care in Columbus, Indiana, with adventurous times spent in Japan and Taiwan. They also traveled extensively, visiting countries including China, Egypt, Germany, Israel, and Russia.
She was the devoted mother of Gerry, Jim, and Mike. While raising her children she also completed a Master’s in Education at Indiana University. A proud and loving grandmother, she showered her grandchildren with unwavering love, support, and kindness. They fondly remember making cookies together, especially treasured her delicious chocolate chip and nonpareil cookies.
In 2017, Nancy and Frank moved to Southlake, Texas, after 28 years in Lake Forest, Illinois. A devoted Catholic, Nancy’s faith was a guiding force in her life, shaping her values of kindness, generosity, and devotion to family. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and sang in her church choir for many years. Even after moving to Texas, she continued her connection to the Church of St. Mary in Lake Forest, Illinois, by enjoying their streaming of church services.
Nancy was lively, funny, and definitely feisty—bringing energy and warmth to those around her. Her quick wit and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her passing on St. Patrick’s Day was especially fitting, as she and her late husband were avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish football fans, attending many home games and traveling to many away games together.
Nancy leaves behind her three children Gerry (Anita Owen-Myers) of Southlake, Texas, Jim (Maribeth Bowden) of Ellicott City, Maryland, and Mike of Southlake, Texas. She also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren: James, Ian, Joseph, Jennifer, Eric, Jacob, Mark and Seth.
A private family service will be held in Notre Dame, Indiana in June. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the Baylor Scott White Intensive Care Unit in Grapevine, TX who cared for Nancy in her final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Brighton College Remembers via British Schools and University Foundation in Nancy Louise Garnersmith Myers’ memory.
