Martin, lovingly known as "Sam" or "Marty," passed away peacefully at home on October 18, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 88 years old.
Born on August 1, 1937, in Winters, Texas, Sam was the only son of Willie and Russell Burton and grew up with five loving sisters. After the tragic passing of his father, Sam left school at the young age of 14 to help support his family, taking on the role of provider and protector.
Sam met the love of his life, Jeanette, in Abilene, TX. They were married on June 7, 1050, in Barber, Arkansas, and shared 63 wonderful years together before her passing. The couple made their home in Abilene and later settled in Lancaster, Texas, where they raised their family.
In 1961, Sam began what would become a remarkable 38-year career with Welder's Supply in Dallas. Starting with odd jobs and delivery routes, his hard work and determination led him to a successful career in sales. He was often recognized as Top Salesman of the Year.
Sam was a man of insatiable curiosity and lifelong learning. Mostly self-taught, he often took night classes simply to expand his knowledge. His dedication, strong work ethic, and devotion to his family define his life.
Above all, Sam was a man of deep faith. He served for many years as a Baptist deacon, faithfully attending, tithing, and serving his church community. His steadfast belief in the Lord guided every aspect of his life.
Sam is survived by his three children: Samuel Burton and his wife Gwen, Wynette Bownds, and Tamara Howat and her husband Kelly. He is also survived by seven grandchildren - Sarah, Rachel, Lazarus, Libby, Annabeth, Grace, and Ethan - and four great-grandchildren: Conner, Emma, Jason, and Kaili.
A graveside service will be held at Medlin Cemetery in Trophy Club, Texas, followed by a lunch reception at Italian Bistro in Roanoke, Texas.
Sam's legacy of faith, integrity, and love will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
