Martha Clark Sibley 

June 2, 1936 – July 29, 2026

Martha Frances Clark (Sibley) was born to Carl and Opal Clark in Stovall, Mississippi, on June 2, 1936. While in her early twenties, she moved to Texas where she met her husband, Melburn Sibley, and formed many lasting friendships. She was a devoted educator, gifted musician, faithful church servant, and loving mother, and passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at the age of 90. 

Martha lived a life marked by compassion, service, faith, and a deep commitment to helping and teaching others. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Melburn Sibley, with whom she shared a life of ministry and dedication to the Baptist church. As the wife of a Baptist minister, Martha faithfully supported churches and congregations throughout the years, offering encouragement, leadership, music, and hospitality wherever they served. 

Martha earned her education degree from Mississippi College and later received a master’s degree from Texas Woman’s University. Her passion for learning and helping children led her to become a dyslexia specialist at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children where she made a lasting impact on countless students and families. She served as president of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA), educating teachers about dyslexia and advocating for improved learning opportunities for children with reading challenges. One of her proudest accomplishments was co-founding the Dyslexia Therapy Program at her alma mater Mississippi College as well as at William Carey University in her home state, thus creating a formalized education legacy that continues to benefit future generations. 

A lifelong organist, Martha used her musical talents faithfully in worship and church life for many decades. Music was one of her greatest joys, and she blessed many congregations with her dedication and talent at the keyboard. 

Martha also loved cooking and caring for others through hospitality and generosity. She was a dedicated supporter of the Baylor scholarship program, especially the nursing program, believing deeply in the importance of education and service to others. 

She is survived by her daughter, Michele, and her son, Michael, who will forever cherish her wisdom, determination, strength, faith, and unwavering love. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Ken, daughter-in-law, Hanna and three wonderful grandchildren, Matilda, Julie and David. 

Martha’s life was one of servant-hearted devotion — to her family, her faith, her students, and her community. Her legacy of education, ministry, music, and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
