Mark Lowell Wooley

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mark Wooley on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the age of 65. Mark was a retired schoolteacher and a long-time resident of North Richland Hills.

Mark Lowell Wooley was born on February 22, 1961, in Ft. Worth, Texas. The second son of Robert and Patti Wooley, he grew up attending South Hills Elementary School, McLean Middle School, and Paschal High School where he graduated in 1979. He attended Stephen F. Austin University and graduated in 1984 with a teaching certificate in Physical Education and English. Mark coached (football and basketball) and taught English at the middle school level, primarily in the Ft. Worth, HEB, and the Sante Fe ISDs.

The family attended Broadway Baptist Church, where Mark made his profession of faith after a church youth trip to Colorado, and was baptized at Broadway at the age of 11. Mark’s childhood was spent playing baseball at the Southside Little League fields, church league basketball, Cub Scouts, participating in church events and functions, and many other activities. There are fond family memories of swimming at the Forest Park pool, camping and swimming at Camp Broadway on Eagle Mountain Lake, and playing front yard football and driveway basketball with the neighborhood kids and school friends. Mark played on the football teams at Paschal and McLean as a defensive lineman.

As a middle schooler Mark began his love for music, and his passion became the Rolling Stones. Obsessed may not be a strong enough word! Albums, posters, concerts, calendars, collectibles, any and everything Stones for over 50 years!!

Mark developed many friendships over the years, and he worked hard to maintain them. He kept in contact with friends from high school and college, as well as work colleagues. He enjoyed getting updates about their lives and accomplishments and looked forward to getting together with them to reminisce about the good ol’ days. Mark was a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan and developed a love for all things Texas Longhorns, and he enjoyed talking football with his friends.

Making people smile and laugh was one of Mark’s unspoken missions. He was always ready with a “dad joke” or a magic trick, and he enjoyed stumping people with random trivia questions.

He was a published author; a detective thriller called The Smack. The book has a noteworthy readership, especially overseas, and is active online.

Mark’s proudest moment was the birth of his son, Marcus Robert Wooley, whom he cherished and loved deeply.

Mark is survived by his son, Marcus Wooley and wife Yarelly; his brothers Randy Wooley and wife Debbie, and Rett Wooley and wife Ronda; niece Rachel Wooley; and nephew Ryan Wooley and wife Felicity.
