It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished daughter, Makenna Christine Seymour, an amazing girl whose adventurous spirit and passion for life touched countless hearts around the world. Though words cannot fully capture the depth of loss we feel, we find comfort in celebrating a life lived with extraordinary purpose, compassion, and boundless curiosity.
As a child, Makenna enjoyed sports, excelling in gymnastics, soccer, swimming, and she loved playing golf with her Pepa. She also loved music and dance. She took violin lessons as a child and performed in dance competitions through her teens. She was an avid entertainer and at times would just burst into song at a moment’s notice!
Makenna was a true citizen of the world, whose love for travel and cultural exploration defined much of her remarkable journey. She discovered her calling while teaching English to students in South Korea, where her natural gift for connecting with others blossomed into a passion for education.
Her zest for life led her across continents, from the romantic streets of France to the rolling hills of Ireland, the ancient beauty of Italy, the vibrant culture of Jamaica, the serene landscapes of Japan, the rich heritage of Spain, and the charming canals of the Netherlands. A very special journey that perfectly embodied her spirit of adventure and her deep appreciation for meaningful connections was her chance to hike the Camino de Santiago in Spain with her aunt. An experience she would never forget.
Makenna was known for her adventurous nature, passion for life, unwavering dedication to those she loved, and her undeniable and unconditional love for her dog, Mylo. While she faced many physical challenges recently, she always remained positive and did her best to overcome the negatives she encountered. Her presence brought light to every room when she entered, and her spirit was an inspiration to the countless family members and friends she knew. Makenna possessed a rare ability to make others feel valued and heard, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of the people she inspired, the fellow travelers she befriended, the family members and friends she cherished, and all who had the privilege of witnessing her infectious enthusiasm for life and the adventures it brought. While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate an extraordinarily well-lived life, filled with courage and discovery, and those countless memories that will forever bring us comfort and joy.
Makenna is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Jim and Tye Seymour. She is survived by her loving parents, Lisa and Bob Sherman; Jeff Seymour and stepmother Bobbi Seymour; her sisters, Tayler Seymour and Riley Yates; her maternal grandparents, Diane and Jerry Smith, her most loyal companion and “best boy,” Mylo, and countless extended family and dear friends.
