James Edward McDonald

March 10, 1938 — February 16, 2026

“Jim Ed” McDonald was born to Nola Smith and Moses Bedford McDonald in Livingston Tennessee and passed away peacefully this past President’s Day.

He'll be deeply missed, but Jim's family and friends can be comforted with many happy memories of his long, full life. Whether at his hangar with his planes and cars or in a spirited game of “Yahtzee”, splashing everyone in his pool, or just watching a movie, Jim truly loved fellowship, laughter, storytelling and planning his many future projects. He was a man who loved life, laughed heartily and made precious memories with those who knew him - especially his neighbors on the cul d sac. He loved spending time with “Peg” traveling to the Reno air races, Lake Tahoe, Mardi Gras, or trips to his old stomping grounds in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Maj. McDonald earned a Bronze Star and two Distinguished Flying Crosses during his time in Southeast Asia from 1968 to 1969 flying missions in various aircraft.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Peggy. He is survived by three daughters, Laura Huestis, Nicole “Nikki” Fisher, and Red McDonald as well as many grandchildren, cousins and friends who will continue to appreciate his deep patriotism, service to country and love of others.

He will be buried next to Peggy at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery with full military honors on March 4, 2026 at 13:15 CDT. Visitation will be from 11AM – 12PM at Lucas Funeral Home in Grapevine, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Meals on Wheels America.
