Arlington

Lynn Terrel James, age 85 of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and daughter.

Lynn was born on May 1, 1940, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, to Denzel and Avie Marie James.  From a young age, Lynn showed remarkable determination and energy. As a boy, he delivered newspapers after school—often wearing the combat boots his mother bought him—and ran through his neighborhood with the enthusiasm that would later define his athletic success.

During his high school years at Little Rock Central High School in Arkansas, Lynn’s natural talent for running emerged. After introducing himself to the track coach, he surprised everyone by defeating the defending state champion in his very first cross-country event. This victory launched a standout high school track career in which he set records and became a celebrated athlete, alongside his two younger brothers.

After graduating in 1958, Lynn earned a full scholarship to the University of Arkansas, where he continued to excel as both a student and athlete, graduating in 1962. He went on to achieve a Master’s Degree in Psychology from Oklahoma State University, beginning a distinguished career with the United States Civil Service soon after. His work took him first to Montana with the U.S. Air Force, and then to Carswell Air Force Base, and later to General Services Administration in Fort Worth, Texas.

On July 1, 1978, Lynn met Brenda, who would become his devoted wife and lifelong companion. Together they made their home in Fort Worth, raising their family and building a life centered on faith, service, and love. After retiring, Lynn enjoyed a well-earned life of travel and time spent with his beloved grandchildren.

Lynn was preceded in death by his son, Mark D. James of Arlington, Texas. He is survived by his loving wife Brenda James of Arlington; his daughter Shannon Belanger and her husband Scott of Keller; his brothers Ferrel James and his wife Renee of Conway, Arkansas, and Randall James and his wife Joyce of Beebe, Arkansas; and four cherished grandchildren: Kelly Renee James of Arlington, Eric Allen James of Arlington, and Sarah Grace Belanger and Skylar Nicole Belanger of Keller; and three Great Grandchildren.

Lynn will be remembered for his tireless work ethic, his kindness, and the quiet strength that carried him through every chapter of his remarkable life.
