Grapevine

Lora Jean Jones was born on September 21, 1936, in Fort Smith, Arkansas, to Edward Zylstra and Alice Finnegan. She spent her formative years attending First Lutheran Church and School, where she embraced faith and values. Lora graduated from Northside High School, marking the beginning of a remarkable journey shaped by devotion and determination.

At the young age of 17, Lora passed the Civil Service exam and began her career at Fort Chaffee Army Base. A significant moment in her life occurred there when she witnessed the induction of Elvis Presley into the Army. Following the closure of Fort Chaffee, Lora relocated to Dallas, where she continued her professional journey, working with various federal government agencies.

In her pursuit of education, she served as an assistant dorm director while earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics from North Texas State University. After graduation, while searching for opportunities in the Home Economics field, she took a temporary position at the United States General Accounting Office, where she met Reid, an auditor who would become a significant part of her life.

Lora and Reid were united in marriage in 1975, embarking on a life filled with love, adventure, and shared experiences as they traveled across the United States on numerous audit assignments. Their journey led them to Grapevine, Texas, where they made their home for the past 49 years.

Lora was not only a dedicated professional but also a devout Christian and passionate Bible student. She served her Savior through many endeavors, but perhaps her most rewarding role was as a Bible study teacher for abused teenage girls at the Lutheran Nelson Center in Denton, Texas. Her commitment to serving others reflected her compassionate spirit and strong faith.

Together, Lora and Reid were proud Charter Members of Crown of Life Lutheran Church in Colleyville, Texas, where she helped with many volunteer roles in the church.

Lora went to heaven on April 26, 2025, on the 50th anniversary of her marriage to Reid. She is now home with Jesus and free of pain, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and service that will forever be cherished. Her loving spirit and dedication to her work and community will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
