Linda Lee Finestead, 77, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 27, 2005, at Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.
Born on July 3, 1947, at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, Linda was the beloved daughter of Donald and Mary McCallum. She was raised in Dallas Center, Iowa, where she was actively involved in both school and church life. A proud graduate of Dallas Center High School’s Class of 1965, Linda went on to attend Iowa State University for a year before beginning work at American Mutual Life in Des Moines.
In 1971, Linda married her childhood sweetheart, Wesley Finestead, at the First Christian Church in Grand Prairie, Texas. That same year, the couple moved to Granger, Iowa, where they started their family. Linda found her greatest joy in raising their two sons, Eric and Kevin.
In 1988, the family relocated to Burleson, Texas. There, Linda dedicated herself to her community and family—serving on the PTA, joining the Newcomers Club, supporting her sons’ school activities, and opening her heart and home to their many friends. She became a beloved “second mom” to countless young people.
After her sons graduated, Linda began working at Berry Patch Fabrics, where she sold sewing machines and taught computer classes. She cherished her time there, forming deep friendships with both colleagues and customers who became like extended family.
Linda is lovingly remembered by her husband, Wes; her sons, Eric of Burleson, Texas, and Kevin of Aledo, Texas; her daughter-in-law Griselda, and her treasured grandchildren: Gwen, Nick, Ethan, Molly, Foster, and Finlay. She is also survived by her sisters, Sandy Murray of Dallas Center, Iowa, and Monica Hakes of DeSoto, Kansas.
Linda's warmth, kindness, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Center for ASD or Humane Society of North Texas
