Larry Dan Ramsey, 90, passed away peacefully on February 17th. Larry was born on October 20th, 1935, in Pueblo, CO. He spent his formative years through college in Amarillo, TX, where he had a large group of high school friends known around town as “The Dirty Dozen.” Larry remained close with all of them throughout his life, outliving every one of them except his dear friend, Glen Askew, with whom he spoke just a day before his passing.
Larry made the DFW area his lifelong home in 1959. That same year marked two pivotal moments in his life. While attending the University of North Texas, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business in 1959, he met the love of his life, Marian, at a coffee house on campus. They married and began building a life together rooted in faith, family, and service. Larry and Marian celebrated their 65th wedding last year at a festive party with family and friends.
Larry proudly served in the United States Naval Reserve from 1953 to 1961, demonstrating an early commitment to his country that reflected the discipline and integrity he carried throughout his life.
The majority of Larry’s professional career was spent with Bell Helicopter as a Procurement Specialist. Over a distinguished 32-year career, he earned numerous awards for outstanding performance and was respected for his work ethic, professionalism, and steady leadership. He retired at age 62, leaving behind a legacy of loyalty and excellence.
Larry and Marian became devoted members of North Richland Hills Baptist Church (now Cross Church) in 1959, where they remained active and faithful for decades. Larry loved to sing gospel music and was an active member of a gospel group at his church known as The Kingsmen for many years. His faith was a cornerstone of his life and a guiding force in how he treated others. Larry never missed an opportunity to tell others about the blessings of Jesus.
Until his late 60s, Larry was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed playing golf with his son, Ty, and his regular group of friends at Rolling Hills Country Club. Those years on the course were among his most cherished times, filled with friendship, laughter, and lasting memories.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otis Ramsey and Alberta Ramsey; and his brother, Ben Ramsey (wife Terry).
Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Marian Woolard Ramsey; his son, Ty Ramsey and wife Bambi; his step-granddaughters, Ava and London; his nephews, Clay Ramsey (wife Mary) and Larry Ramsey (wife Amanda); his nieces, Hannah Garcia (husband Erik) and Lorri Sapp (husband Tim); Bobby and Michelle Gibbs; and many other great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends who were blessed to know him.
