Lana J. Read Carter, 79, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on March 13, 1946, Lana was a devoted daughter to Norman and Vanita Read and a beloved wife to the late Doyle Carter, all of whom preceded her in death.
A lifelong member of the Church of Christ, Lana’s faith shaped the way she lived—generously, joyfully, and with an abiding love for others. She dedicated her life to education, nurturing the minds and hearts of countless students throughout her career. Her gift for teaching was matched only by the joy she found in her family, especially her granddaughter Arya. Lana’s eyes sparkled when Arya sang and laughed—moments she treasured most deeply.
Lana is survived by her son, Lance Holcomb; her loving sisters, Edwina Manthei and Barbara Hollifield; her cherished niece, Paula Satcher; nephew, Scott Satcher; and great- niece, Victoria Satcher. She also leaves behind many grandchildren and other family members, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Lana had a zest for life. She loved traveling, shopping, and spending time playing cards with her sisters—always accompanied by the sound of laughter that could fill a room, a laugh that mirrored her sisters’ in its warmth and spirit. Her many friends will remember her as loyal, kind, and always ready with a smile or a joke.
Lana’s legacy is one of love—love for learning, love for family, and love for living fully. She will be deeply missed and joyfully remembered by all who knew her.
