Kimberly Dianne Johns Brown, age 63, left us suddenly on November 6, 2025, held in the love of her family.
Born to Jo Anne Murrell Johns and the late Johnny Earl Johns, Kimberly grew up in Richardson, Texas, where she graduated from J.J. Pearce High School. She continued her education at Texas State University in San Marcos and later earned her degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Inquisitive and an enthusiastic learner, Kim was knowledgeable on many subjects. Her favorites were music, cars and mid-century modern design. As an avid reader she especially enjoyed Stephen King novels. She was a devoted Anglophile who loved her British television shows. Her music tastes were eclectic and varied. Early loves were Elton John, ZZ Top, The Beatles, The Monkees, Metallica, Bob Seger, and The Eagles. As her musical preferences broadened. She enjoyed Leon Bridges, Charley Crockett, and Khruangbin. Interested in cars from a very early age, Kim was fascinated with Volkswagens, Volvos and classic cars. Her first tattoo was a Volkswagen with flames. Although a fast driver, she was a safe and mindful driver.
Kim was a proud citizen of the Chickasaw Nation and delighted in learning about the history, traditions and culture of all Native Americans.
An administrative assistant at the Roanoke Fire Department, she loved the firefighters like family. She had recently retired after 25 years of dedicated service. Friends and family were of utmost importance to her. Being a mother to her children and their many friends brought her much joy and delight, and she will be cherished by them always. A devoted daughter, she enjoyed traveling with her mother. Being close in age with her sister, Karyn, they shared many of the same interests and friends. She was a loyal and loving friend, and as one friend expressed, “she was a great friend and loving soul.” Kim will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her father, Johnny Earl Johns; her paternal grandparents, Richard G. and Novah Johns; her maternal grandparents, Joe Bailey and Annie Murrell; her uncle, Ron Murrell; and her cousin, Gregg Murrell.
Kimberly is lovingly survived by her mother, Jo Anne Johns; her sister, Karyn Johns; her sons, Jacob Frank Brown, Stephen Hooper Brown, Grant Ronald Brown, and adopted son Nickolas Andrew Weitzman; her daughter, Samantha Dianne Brown and husband Taylor Alan Pack; and her cherished grandchildren, Nico Basil Wheeler-Brown and Scout Gayle Pack. She is also survived by her dear aunt Janet Justice; cousins Stephanie Tedder, Jennifer Rankin, and Juli Gay; and her beloved Pekingese girls, Momo and Kiku.
A celebration of Kimberly’s life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Lucas Family Funeral Home, 1601 Main Street, Keller, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to one of Kimberly’s favorite causes: Fire Family Foundation, PBS, or DFW Pug Rescue.
Kimberly’s kindness, laughter, and unwavering love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
