My story began on Sunday, February 5, 1956, in Lansing, Michigan - a daughter born to Paul and Ardeth Klofkorn. That story ended on August 17, 2024. But a life is so much more than those two moments of time.
I have not found much reason to be thankful for being a Texan these many years. Both politics and climate have battered me by their respective storms, with precious little snow to soothe my soul. Free at last.
My deepest love to Jacob (walking with you in the woods and mountains) and Kadeth (my traveling companion and arts connection). It’s been my privilege to be your mom. And to Kasin, Boston, and Mabel - how wonderful you all are! My sisters Lisa and Amy Klofkorn: you have been most generous and kind to me. Pat Burt, who made tough times easier. My KISD friends (Sheryl, Olivia) and BISD pal (Lisette) - thanks for the lifelines. And, of course, Jan Ogden, my SC BFF.
When you put your best effort into a career like teaching, it becomes not what you do but who you are. After retirement, it was hard to be so alone. The pandemic proved to be a lesson like no other.
For all the things I haven’t done or been, I ask forgiveness. Think of me when Halloween rolls around one more time. Think of me when you read a good book, or share a good meal. Think of me when you discover something new and amazing.
