Katherine Ann Howrigan, age 91, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026. She was born on June 30, 1934, in Burlington, Vermont, to Ralph John Howrigan and Mildred Blackman Howrigan.
Katherine lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, compassion, and a deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms. She proudly served her country as a member of the U.S. Navy WAVES during the Korean War. Her dedication and leadership continued in civilian life, including her role as President of the Secretaries Association Chapter in El Paso, Texas.
She was a lifelong learner, graduating from Wilby High School in Waterbury, Connecticut, class of 1952, and continuing her education at the University of Texas at El Paso and El Paso Community College.
Katherine raised two children, Patrick and Therese, and found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished every moment spent with them.
Professionally, Katherine worked as an executive secretary in Civil Service, a role she found both fulfilling and meaningful, forming many lasting friendships along the way. After retirement, she continued her life of service by caring for the elderly, offering families peace of mind with her dependable and compassionate support.
Katherine had a passion for gardening and flowers of all kinds, a love of classic films, and a deep appreciation for music—especially the voices of Elvis Presley and Tony Bennett. She enjoyed traveling whenever possible, delighting in new foods and beautiful destinations. She also took pride in her appearance and found joy in shopping for elegant clothing and meaningful items.
Her compassionate heart was her greatest strength. She cared deeply for animals and for those unable to care for themselves, always extending kindness, patience, and generosity.
Katherine was preceded in death by her father, Ralph; her mother, Mildred; and her sister, Janice.
She is survived by her son, Patrick Bibo and his wife Patsy, and their children Michael and Alyssa; her daughter, Therese Cox and her husband Bill, and their children Jillian and Taylor; and her great-grandson, Liam, the son of Jillian. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and compassion that will be cherished by all who knew her.
A service will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at DFW National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Katherine’s memory.
