Judy Schafer Zimmerman, 84, passed away on September 17, 2026. She was born on November 23, 1941, to Harry Alvin Schafer and Ella Mae Lupton Schafer.
Growing up, Judy cherished memories of helping her family at her father's bakery, delivering freshly baked goods to Carswell Air Force Base in the early morning hours.
In 1969, Judy married Garland Mack Zimmerman, and together they raised two sons. Garland Mack Zimmerman II married Amy Yoakum, and they had two sons, Garland Mack Zimmerman III (married to Alexis) and Jake (married to Julia). James Edward “Jimmy” Zimmerman married Tarrah Phillips, and they had six children: Anna, Serene, Benjamin, Rivers, Patience, and Evangeline.
Judy was delighted to know that her first great-grandchild, a great-granddaughter, is expected in December 2026, born to Jake and Julia.
Judy worked at Fort Worth National Bank in the 1960s before devoting herself to raising her sons as a stay-at-home mother. She was, by every account, the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for.
In 1988, Judy and Mack grew much deeper in their Christian faith, a turning point that left behind a lasting legacy of strong faith carried on through their sons and grandchildren.
Judy found great joy in studying God's word, playing games with her grandchildren, and tending to her garden. She was deeply active at First Baptist Church in Keller, where she poured her time and effort into the refugee ministry and the card ministry.
Judy is survived by her sons, Garland Mack Zimmerman II (Amy) and James Edward “Jimmy” Zimmerman (Tarrah); and her grandchildren, Garland Mack Zimmerman III, Jake, Anna, Serene, Benjamin, Rivers, Patience, and Evangeline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Mack Zimmerman, who passed away in 2003; her parents, Harry Alvin Schafer and Ella Mae Lupton Schafer; her brother, Harry Alvin Schafer II; and her sister, Patricia Schafer Wilkerson.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at Lucas Funeral Home in Keller. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at First Baptist Church Keller, with a graveside service at 12:00 noon.
