Judy Green Tidwell, born on September 19, 1940, to Verna Dunn Copeland and Irvin Gray Green, left this earth on May 3, 2026, in Justin, surrounded by her adoring family and was gathered to her people.
Judy is preceded in death by: her husband of 67 years, Roger Tidwell; her parents; her beloved daughter, Karen Tidwell Poer; her brother, Gerald Green; and her sisters-in-law, Marcye Tidwell Ward and Eileen Tidwell Sheehey. She is survived by her son, Mike Tidwell (Lynda) of Justin, Texas; her daughter, Nancy Tidwell Hicks of Denton, Texas; and her daughter, Missy Tidwell Wood (Mark), of Sunset, Texas. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren (Caleb Tidwell, Adam Tidwell, Mindy Moore, Kristin Thompson, Jill Vestal, Dustin Barksdale, Hayden Barksdale, Sam Poer, and Polley Poer), their spouses, and 15 great grandchildren, all of whom will miss her tremendously.
Born in Ellis County, Judy moved to Justin as a child where she made life-long friends and met Roger. They married on May 21, 1955, and within five years added Mike, Nancy, and Karen to their family. Missy joined the family seven years later.
Judy was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. She worked tirelessly to care for her husband and children, making sure they had all they needed. She was an excellent seamstress, at times making almost everything her own children wore. She often joked that she could frequently sit in church and count the dresses she had made being worn by her own daughters and shared with other little girls in the congregation. She was handy and resourceful, able to put together a piece of furniture, hang a picture, and always ready to sew on a button.
Roger and Judy created a home where all were welcome, and the door was always open. Their own friends and the friends of their children and grandchildren frequently stopped by, for a glass of tea or just a visit. Judy loved children and could rock a baby to sleep faster than anyone else. She exemplified the Virtuous Wife of Proverbs 31, and her children now rise up and call her blessed. Judy was a member of Decatur Church of Christ, and her faith brought her comfort throughout her life.
In Judy’s last few days, she looked forward to heaven and being reunited with Roger and Karen. We have comfort in knowing they are all together and in the presence of Jesus.
A visitation for Judy’s family and friends will be held on Friday, May 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Lucas Funeral Home – Grapevine. A funeral service will occur on Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m., also at Lucas Funeral Home - Grapevine. A committal service will occur following the service at Medlin Cemetery in Trophy Club
