Judy Claire Lucky

December 21, 1941 — August 12, 2025

McKinney, Texas

Judy Claire (Hendricks) Lucky, of Burleson, TX passed away on August 12, 2025 at the age of 83. Judy was born on December 21, 1941 in Atlanta, TX to Rupert "R.E." Hendricks and Sybil Jewel (Stovall) Hendricks. She was attending school and working when she met and married the love of her life, William Rufus “Bill” Lucky, in 1959. They raised two daughters, Gail and Rhonda, in Killeen, TX where she created a warm and welcoming home. When the girls started school, she worked for Fairway Junior High before becoming a supply clerk for the United States Army. Bill and Judy moved to Mabank, TX in 1995 where they spent their retirement fishing on the lake, enjoying beautiful sunsets, and hosting many gatherings for loved ones. They began RV life in 2018 when they relocated to Burleson, TX to be closer to Rhonda’s family. After Bill’s passing in July of 2024, Judy moved to an assisted living home near Gail in McKinney, TX.

She spent her free time listening to southern gospel music, playing card games, making fun crafts, doing word puzzles, and decorating her home. Always prepared for company, she would be sure to offer you a treat as soon as you stepped inside. She loved to host gatherings and holiday parties, filling their house with love, laughter, and delicious food. Judy also enjoyed the outdoors, from camping to fishing to gardening to sitting on her porch and watching the sunset. Most of all, she loved doing these things surrounded by family and friends. Bill and Judy were both faithful members of the Church. Judy participated in many activities over the years such as playing the piano, taking care of young kiddos, making crafts with other members, and preparing Wednesday night meals. Even after moving into assisted living, they continued to attend bible studies and were committed to watching Sunday services online. Judy lived out Paul’s instructions to the Thessalonians, to “lead a quiet life” and she did so with kindness and love.

Judy’s biggest priority in life was loving and taking care of her family. She was a beloved confidant and friend to her children, a safe place for her grandchildren, and a patient caretaker for many relatives. She was a caring and playful Grandmom to more than 30 grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved to visit with her. Judy was cherished by her husband of 64 years, and together they built a life and home that served the Lord and made all feel welcome.

Judy is survived by her children, Gail and Bill Rosen and Rhonda and Scott Houghton; her grandchildren, Sean Houghton, Sabrina and Chris Blanchett, Brooke and Patrick Gurley, Beau and Emily Rosen, Jeremy and Kate Houghton, Joshua and Tessa Houghton, Jordan and Mike Black, Jonathan and Bybiana Houghton, and Sydney and Daniel Welch; her great grandchildren, Brady, Joslin, Jackson, Makenzie, Ellanor, Olive, Margaux, EJ, Finn, Winnie, Everly, Shiloh, Harper, Santiago, Wren, Teddy, Norah, David, Maisie, and another on the way; her siblings, Jim and Kay Hendricks, Jackie and Neville Holder, June and Bob Jensen, Nita and Sam Davis, and Doug Hendricks; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William “Bill” Lucky; her parents, R.E. and Sybil Hendricks; and her siblings, Joann and Homer Adams and Nell and Charles Drake.

On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the visitation will be held at 1:00pm followed by the funeral at 2:00pm. Both will be located at Bethesda Baptist Church in Burleson, TX.

The family would like to thank Morada of Burleson, Legend of McKinney, and Merit Hospice for their help in caring for Judy over the last few years. They also request that any memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
