Obituary

John Robert Davis, 81, passed away peacefully at home on September 20, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved most. He was born on November 2, 1944, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late Floyd Davis and Dorothy Becker.

John graduated from LeTourneau University with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He then proudly served six years in the United States Air Force at Holloman Air Force Base, conducting research and development at the Air Force Missile Development Center.

After his military service, John enjoyed a remarkable 29-year career with Westinghouse, traveling to countless power plants across the country. He later spent 10 years with Brazos Electric Cooperative as a power plant superintendent and then many years as an independent consultant putting his years of knowledge and experience to work.

John had a brilliant mind and loved solving problems. If something could be fixed, improved, analyzed, or explained in considerably more detail than anyone had anticipated, John was your guy.

When he wasn't working or traveling, John was a dedicated ham radio operator. He loved the technology, the challenge, and the people he could connect with from all over. For John, there was always something to learn, someone to talk to, or some new piece of equipment that was necessary.

For all of John’s accomplishments, his greatest achievement—and the thing he was most proud of—was his family. John was the devoted husband of Sue, the absolute love of his life. They shared 54 years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, family, commitment, and a whole lot of love. Sue knew John's heart better than anyone—and probably also knew when to let him think he had won an argument.

He was a loving father to his three daughters, Loralee, Linnea, and Lailoni. John wanted nothing more than to give his girls a strong foundation, good guidance, and a lifetime supply of his truly bizarre sense of humor. He succeeded on all three counts.

And then came the grandsons. As a grandfather, John found a whole new level of joy. He was immensely proud of his six grandsons—Jonathan, Blake, Bryce, Brock, Michael, and Levi. He loved watching them grow, spending time with them, sharing his wisdom, and, naturally, making sure they knew things he considered important.

Those who will deeply miss John include his beloved wife, Sue Davis; daughter Linnea and her husband, Shane, and their sons, Michael and wife, Dakota and Levi, of North Richland Hills, Texas; daughter Lailoni and her husband, Dusty, and their sons, Blake, Bryce, and Brock, of Aledo, Texas; and grandson Jonathan and his wife, Whitney, of Wylie, Texas; brother Ken Davis of Boca Raton, Florida.

And while there is an enormous hole in the hearts of those he left behind, there is also comfort in knowing that John has joyfully joined Loralee in Heaven.

We suspect he has already found the control room.

He has probably asked a few questions.

He may have already offered some suggestions.

And we're fairly certain he's found something that needs fixing.

John lived a life full of faith, family, service, work, travel, curiosity, laughter, and love. He was a husband, father, grandfather, veteran, engineer, consultant, ham radio operator, problem-solver, storyteller, and professional over-explainer.

Most importantly, he was John.

And there will never be another one.

He will be deeply missed, endlessly remembered, and forever loved.

A private family service will be held to honor John’s life and military service.
