John Brian Coke

John B. Coke, age 71, was born in Dallas, Texas and passed away on April 1, 2026 in Bedford, Texas. Proceeded in death by his parents, Owen and Eleanor Coke. Survived by loving sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Jim Schranz, Betsy and Andy Brock, and Ginny and Steve Carter; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Martha Coke; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

John attended Carter High School, where he played in the marching band and was class president his senior year. John was an Eagle Scout, and member of the Westminster Youth Choir at Oak Cliff Presbyterian Church.

He loved hiking on family vacations and on scouting excursions, including a hike up Long’s Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park and camping and hiking at Philmont Scout Ranch during high school.

John graduated from SMU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1978 with minor in Mathematics and Computer Science. He did additional course work after college in programming and mathematics. He won awards in design including Electronic Engineering Times National Design Competition 1995: Motorola Award.

John had a successful career in software design, development and consulting. He enjoyed working on challenging software projects in many areas including real time systems, database, networking, for wide ranging applications including defense, aerospace, medical and graphics systems.
