John Albin was born in 1950 in Crosbyton, Texas to John and Ottie Albin. He entered the Lord’s presence and was reunited with his wife Becky on July 9, 2025.
John was the younger brother of Leslie and grew up in Spur, Texas. After graduating from Spur High School, he spent one year at Texas Tech University. It was during his freshman year that he made the most important decision of his life and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
At the beginning of his sophomore year, he withdrew from college and joined the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea in the South Pacific and was later stationed at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California. It was in Coronado that he met Becky Linton-the beginning of a love story that lasted almost five decades.
After being discharged from the Navy, John re-enrolled at Texas Tech and resumed his studies. He and Becky were married on June 14th, 1975. Following graduation, John accepted a commission in the Army Reserve, where he served for over 30 years traveling the world, including deployments in Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
John and Becky were blessed with three children-Sarah, Amy, and Scott-who, along with their spouses Todd, Andy, and Denae, provided them with ten beautiful grandchildren, one of whom is already in Heaven.
John held various roles in the business world but ultimately felt a calling to education. He taught junior high history for many years and later earned a master’s degree in administration. His leadership as a principal, assistant superintendent, and headmaster impacted various school communities across Texas.
John’s life was marked by service, humility, and sacrifice – to his family, his church, his country, and hundreds of educators and students. He was deeply respected and made an impact on all who knew him.
John is survived by two daughters, Sarah Konkel and husband Todd, and Amy Nickel and husband Andy, and one son, Scott Albin and wife Denae; nine grandchildren: Zachary, Nathaniel, and Jacob Konkel, Moriah, Caleb, and Charis Nickel, and Joshua, Kara, and Hudson Albin. Also surviving are one brother, Les Albin and wife Monta Kay; one brother-in-law, Ben Linton and wife Kit; four nieces, Susan Gann (John), Kim Albin, April Linton (Billy), and Rachel Linton (Jen); one great-niece, Ani Albin; and many cousins.
John was preceded in death by wife, Becky Albin; parents, John and Ottie Albin; aunts, Ila Johnston and Ann Blumberg, along with many other aunts and uncles; grandson, Jeremiah Nickel; and great-nephew, Max Gann.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Mission Trip Scholarship Fund at Bear Creek Bible Church, or to a charity supporting education or military service members/veterans.
A memorial service celebrating John’s life will be held at Bear Creek Bible Church, 1555 North Tarrant Parkway, Keller, Texas 76248 at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 9.
