Joe Lara, 78, passed away on August 25, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Joe was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, father-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law and friend whose steady presence and generous heart touched everyone fortunate enough to have know him.

Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam War veteran. Following his service, he graduated from Texas Tech University, earning a Bachelor’s of Science degree in accounting. After a brief career in the private sector, he went on to dedicate many years to Federal Service as an auditor before retiring from the General Services Administration. Retirement opened the door to what Joe lovingly considered his most important job of all: being a grandpa.

Affectionately known as “Doe” to his grandchildren, Joe treasured every moment with Annie and Milo. They brought him a special kind of happiness, and being their grandpa was a role he embraced with all his heart. Joe’s nieces and nephews will forever cherish the memories of countless games of spades and dominoes, hours filled with laughter, friendly competition, and family togetherness. Those simple moments became treasured memories that will live on for generations.

Above all, Joe was the best dad. His love, guidance, humor, and presence shaped the lives of his daughters in ways that can never be replaced. His family will carry his memory with them every day.

Joe will be deeply missed and forever loved. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through his girls, grandchildren, extended family, and all those fortunate enough to have known him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary of 53 years; his daughters, Lisa (Chris Pannell) and Christina (Dustin Veigelt); and his two cherished grandchildren, Anabelle and Milo Veigelt. He is also survived by his sister, Ester Hernandez; nephews David Ysasaga and John Robert Ysasaga; and nieces Lori Vasquez, Patricia Ysasaga, and Melissa Hernandez.

Rest peacefully, Dad. We love you and will miss you every single day.
