Jimmy W. Smith

January 26, 1947 — August 13, 2025

Burleson, Texas

Jimmy Wayne "Jim" Smith, 78, passed away on August 13, 2025, in Burleson, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and public servant, Jim lived a life marked by faith, service, and joyful connection with those around him.

Born on January 26, 1947, in Casa Grande, California, Jim was the son of Red and Judy Smith. He grew up with a strong sense of family and community that would shape his life’s path. He graduated from H. Grady Spruce High School in Dallas in 1965 and later earned an associate degree from Dallas Community College’s Eastfield Campus in 1980.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1971 during the Vietnam War. His time in the military instilled in him a deep sense of duty and discipline that he carried into his civilian life. Following his military service and education, Jim built a distinguished career in public service. He retired as Director of Public Works for the City of College Station, Texas—a role through which he contributed significantly to the development and well-being of the community.

Jim was a man of deep faith. A believer in Jesus Christ and a credentialed minister, he lived out his beliefs with sincerity and compassion. His spiritual commitment was evident not only in his ministry but also in the way he treated others—with kindness, respect, and warmth.

He is survived by his beloved wife Janet Smith; daughters Christina Smith and Charlene Molina, and husband John; stepson Justin Molina, and wife Leigh Ann; grandchildren Caitlin, Jacob and Julia; his brother Tom Smith, and wife Kathy Smith; and his niece Kera McDaniel.

Family was at the heart of Jim’s life. He cherished family gatherings where laughter flowed freely and music filled the air, especially when he and Tom would play guitar and sing together.

Jim had a passion for golf and music. Whether strumming his guitar or enjoying a round on the green, he brought joy to those around him with his outgoing nature and fun-loving spirit. Friends and family remember him as friendly, polite, and always ready to share a smile or lend a hand.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on September 20 at Lucas Funeral Home in Burleson, Texas. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire lives rooted in faith, service, and love for family.
