Jimmy Glenn Lewis

Jimmy Glenn Lewis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Sunday, September 20th at the age of 84.

Jimmy was born on July 21, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was raised by his parents, James Hobert Lewis and Ruby Lewis in Fort Worth. He graduated from Amon Carter Riverside High School in 1960 and went on to spend his career in the aviation industry. He began as a Machinist at LTV and ended his career as a Senior Planner at Lockheed Martin when he retired in 2004. Jimmy was a respected colleague and supervisor, who was thorough and attentive in his work, wanting the best for the pilots and people flying in the planes he touched.

On August 5, 1963, Jimmy married Karen Foster in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a loving and devoted husband for 63 years, always determined to make Karen laugh. Jimmy and Karen had three children together: Katrina, Karla, and Eric, and raised them in Haltom City. He was a caring and responsible father. He had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who affectionately called him Pepa (pronounced “Pee-paw”). They will remember his consistent, loving gestures that made each of them feel cherished.

Jimmy was a lifelong member of The Church of Christ. He embodied the teachings of Christ through his compassion and care for others. He was a tender, kind man, who was always willing to take someone in, share what he had, and impart his wisdom on those looking to find their way. Jimmy took special care to tend to those older and younger than him. He loved children, and children loved him. Even well into his 70s, he was keen on helping out the “older folks” from his church.

Jimmy enjoyed tending to his campers at their home on the farm next to Texas Motor Speedway on race weekends. He always made sure they had everything they needed, and his new friends returned each year bringing Jimmy and Karen special gifts, delicious meals, and sweet treats. For those who shared his passion for gardening, he took time to build them garden beds and mix up a generous portion of his famous “magic dirt.”

As kind as he was, Jimmy will also be well remembered for his sense of humor. He always had a joke up his sleeve and could bring a smile to even the sternest of faces. No matter where he found himself, Jimmy was always in the company of friends. Some of his and Karen’s closest friends were folks that they met at their favorite restaurants. People were drawn to Jimmy’s kind heart and boisterous laugh. He was a present person, and he had a special ability to make those around him feel truly valued.

Jimmy was also a keen observer of his environment. He lived many years at the Foster Family Farm, where he fell in love with feeding and observing the local wildlife as well as growing tomato plants as tall as he was. Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, once reeling in a 42-lb channel catfish. He always looked forward to his annual trip to Mississippi with friends. Jimmy also loved tracking the dynamic weather of North Texas, and if you saw an incoming call from him, there was a good chance it was a warning about a storm on the way.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Karen Lewis; his children Katrina Peebles (Clay), Karla Maynor (Shane), and Eric Lewis (Samantha); his sisters, Linda Brooks and Sandra Lewis; his grandchildren Kayla Peebles (Mike), Evan Peebles, Melea Jones (Thomas), Grant Maynor (Hayley Maitland), Alix Adams (Chris), Cody Lewis, Suzy Lewis, and Mason Lewis; his great-grandchildren Annetta Adams, Olivia Adams, Juniper Jones, Owen Maynor, and Layton Maynor. He has been reunited in death with his parents, James Hobert Lewis and Ruby Lewis, as well as a number of other loved ones.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Friday, September 25th at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst. The funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, September 26th at Legacy Church of Christ in North Richland Hills, with a burial to follow at 1pm at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth.
