James D. Witherspoon, of Hurst, Texas, entered into Heaven, joining family members who have gone before him on Thursday, February 20th, 2025.
He will be remembered as a faithful lover of God, loving spouse, loving dad, friend, and mentor.
He was born on February 9th,1930 in Ft. Worth Texas to Clyde and Mary (Taylor) Witherspoon. Jim graduated High School in Ft. Worth and shortly thereafter married the love of his life Shirley (Hatter) Witherspoon of Dallas, Texas. They spent the next 72 years together dedicated to each other. Jim was a Faithful Trustee and Member of St Paul United Methodist Church in Hurst Texas. He served in various capacities and was instrumental in numerous capital improvement projects. He also enjoyed being a member of the Antique Radio and Phonograph Society of Ft Worth. He and Shirley were also active in the Texaco/Chevron Retirement Association. He worked in Civil Engineering for Texaco/Chevron for approximately 40 years.
Jim is survived by wife, Shirley Witherspoon of Hurst Texas; daughter, Deborah Goza of Ft Worth; nieces, Beverly Clements of Ft Worth, and Sharon Smith of Killeen, Texas; grandson, Shannon Phillips, and Wife Lisa, of Houston, Texas; along with three great grandchildren and other family members. He is also survived by longtime family friends, Randy Schaffner, and wife, Vicki of Tyler Texas, as well as Mark Schaffner, and wife Beth, of Temple Texas. Jim also leaves behind his Faithful 4-legged companion, Mollie. Jim was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Phillips.
The visitation will be held at 9AM on Saturday March 1, 2025, at Lucas Funeral Home, Hurst, Texas. The graveside service will be held following at 10AM on Saturday at Bluebonnet Memorial Cemetery located in Colleyville, Texas.
The family would like to thank all the staff and caregivers at Parkwood Health Care Center in Bedford, Texas as well as the kind and loving staff of Ultimate Plus Care Hospice. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church of Hurst, Texas.
