James Barry Watkins, age 75, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026.

James was born on August 5, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, to J.B. Watkins and Wanda Jean Allen Watkins. On December 23, 1972, he married the love of his life, Betty, beginning a marriage that spanned more than five decades and was filled with love, devotion, and countless cherished memories.

James found his greatest joy in the outdoors. He loved spending time in nature, whether he was fishing on a quiet lake or hiking in the woods. He was known for his remarkable intelligence and lifelong love of learning. As a young man, he excelled in spelling bees, and throughout his life he remained an avid reader with an endless curiosity about the world around him. One of his most memorable qualities was his incredible ability to remember names and faces, making everyone he met feel recognized and valued.

Above all, James treasured the time he spent with his family. His love, wisdom, and steady presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.

James was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. Watkins and Wanda Jean Allen Watkins.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Betty Watkins; his daughters, Jennifer Northcutt and Jessica Watkins; his grandchildren, Madison Ayers and Jacob Northcutt; his great-grandchildren, Maylee and Levi; his sister, Vicki Roberts; his brother, Steve Watkins; his nieces, Kristin O-Brien and Andrea Simpson; and numerous extended family members and dear friends who will cherish his memory.

James leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and quiet strength that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
