Obituary

James Madison Huffman, 79, of Burleson, Texas, passed away on September 21, 2026.

He was born September 24, 1946, in Cleburne, Texas, to Stuart A. Huffman and Maggie Ruth (Godsey) Huffman.

While attending Hill College, James was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served with the 709th Military Police Brigade, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, James worked for General Dynamics. Shortly after, he joined Miller Brewing Company, where he built a 35-year career before retiring.

James spent years coaching soccer and baseball for his son and countless other young athletes around Burleson, and later became an avid tennis fan, following his son and his teammates as they excelled on the court. When he wasn't coaching, he could usually be found out on the lake, always chasing that next wall hanger. He also cherished family vacations with the Dierks and the Taylors.

When his two granddaughters, Presley and Kinley, were born, he became their number one fan and happily spoiled them every chance he got, all while losing the ability to say "no". Hearing about their cheerleading and volleyball accomplishments meant so much to him.

James was married to the love of his life, Patricia "Patty" (Schumacher) Huffman, for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia "Patty" (Schumacher) Huffman; son, Stuart Huffman (Krista); granddaughters, Presley Huffman and Kinley Huffman; sister, Linda Goins (the late Robert "Bob" Goins); and sister, Mary Ann Vargas (the late Ron Vargas); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stuart A. Huffman; his mother, Maggie Ruth Huffman; brother, Stuart A. Huffman, Jr. (Shirley); brother, Joe Huffman (the late Connie); and sister, Glenda Elliott (Robert Elliott).
