James Russell Helmick Jr. of Burleson, Texas passed away on July 27th, 2025. Born on May 3rd, 1957, at Misawa Air base in Japan. James was the first-born son of James R. Sr. Helmick and Mitsuko Helmick. James graduated from West Carrollton High School in Ohio in 1975. He began his career as a journeyman tool and die maker at Vulcan Tool Co. He continued his career at General Dynamics, Fort Worth Division and retired from Bell Helicopter as a manufacturing engineer. In his younger years James loved to fish, build and fly RC airplanes. His love of woodworking created several beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends. James had a strong love of Corvettes from the time he rebuilt his first one. James’ battle with several health issues in his later years gave him the opportunity to enjoy spending time with the family, his ole English bulldog, Franklin, and new hobbies. He enjoyed gaming online, building model airplanes, and car rides with his wife and dog.
James is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Helmick (Richardson); his daughter, Stephanie Chay-Morales (Byron); stepson, Brian Richardson (Mandy); stepson Brad Richardson; father, James R. Helmick Sr.; mother, Mitsuko Helmick; brother Gary Helmick (Jo); brother, Bob Helmick (Micky); grandchildren, Ricky E. Halliburton III, Aaliyah Halliburton, Jimmy Chay-Morales, Elijah Chay-Morales, new baby due August 2025, David Richardson, Jace Richardson; and many nieces and nephews.
James’ kind heart and wonderful sense of humor will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
A “Celebration of Life” visitation will be held on August 2, 2025, from 6pm to 8pm at Lucas Funeral Home – Burleson, located at 518 Southwest Johnson Avenue, Burleson, Texas, allowing family and friends to honor James’ life.
