James William “Jim” Garrigan, 72, of Fort Worth, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, with his wife, Terry, by his side. He was born November 19, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jim and Mary Jo Garrigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Jim will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 16, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas. A vigil services will be 6:00 - 8:00p.m. Thursday evening with the Rosary recited at 7:00p.m..
Jim proudly served his community with the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, where he was a well-respected Sergeant. After 20 years of dedicated service, he retired and began a new chapter filled with the things he loved most—family, adventure, travel, and meeting people wherever life took him.
Jim never met a stranger. He had a natural ability to strike up a conversation with just about anyone, and his travels often led to new friendships and plenty of good stories. Somehow, no matter where he went, Jim always seemed to find a cigar lounge along the way. His curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit also kept him busy with new ideas and ventures. Over the years, he owned and operated a pizzeria in Michigan and later a gelato shop in Fort Worth.
While Jim enjoyed a good adventure and the excitement of a new business idea, he also had a generous heart and a genuine desire to help others. He found great joy in delivering Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to families in need, sharing not only food but also kindness and fellowship. He was a lifetime honorary member of the Knights of Columbus, an organization whose values of faith, service, and community reflected so much of who Jim was.
Above all, Jim treasured his family and the many friendships he made throughout his life. His outgoing spirit, quick conversation, love of adventure, and generous nature will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Left to cherish Jim’s memory is his beloved wife of 48 years, Terry Garrigan; daughters, Colleen Garrigan and Mary Garrigan; grandchildren, Mykaela, Cayden, and Mekai, of whom he was so proud; sisters, Cathy Whitten and JoAnne Christoff; nephews, Bobby Garrigan, Jimmy Garrigan, Alex Bardy, Josiah Bardy, Zach Bardy and Tom Charron; nieces, Danielle Malone, Meghan Garrigan and Amanda Naess; brothers-in-law Bob Bardy (Aura), Chris Bardy, Tim Bardy (Pam) and John Bardy, many loving cousins; his Italian family, Franco, Ginevra, and Giuseppe Sirimarco; his many cigar lounge friends from Michigan and Texas, and cherished friends from his Alameda County Sheriff’s Office days.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bob Garrigan, and his nephew, Shaun McGrath.
Jim leaves behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, laughter, and acts of kindness. His adventurous spirit and generous heart will continue to live on in the many people whose lives he touched.
