Irma Del Olmo, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 29, 2026, in Dallas, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas.
Funeral services to celebrate Irma’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Lucas Funeral Home in Hurst, Texas with cremation to follow.
Born on July 30, 1962, in El Paso, Texas, Irma was the youngest of fifteen children in a large and close-knit family. Her early years were filled with music and activity; she played piano and clarinet, performed gymnastics, and earned the honor of drum major in high school.
Irma’s life was marked by a deep commitment to her family and community. After marrying Manuel Del Olmo following high school, an occasion on which her older brother Jesus Nieto proudly walked her down the aisle, she and Manuel settled into a home near her parents. Together, they worked tirelessly to build a nurturing home and raised three children: Amanda, born in 1988; Emmanuel, born in 1996; and Sarah, born in 2001.
She dedicated much of her career to working in Border Customs and later with the TSA, a role from which she retired in 2016 due to significant back injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Despite chronic pain and limitations that followed, Irma’s spirit of selflessness never dimmed. She was renowned for always saying “yes” to helping family whether through moving assistance, babysitting, housesitting, hosting, or taking care of ill relatives. Even during her own health battles, including time spent receiving chemotherapy and a transplant for bone marrow cancer, Irma’s door remained open, and her heart remained generous, continuing to host and support loved ones without complaint.
Irma exemplified what it means to love selflessly, embracing a spirit akin to the love Jesus showed. She was always the first to volunteer and the last to express dissatisfaction. Her life was a testament to kindness, empathy, and care extended without expectation or hesitation.
Outside of her family and career, Irma found joy in many pursuits. She had a passion for karaoke, often inviting friends and family to join her for singing sessions fueled by an extensive collection of songs. She delightfully hosted pool parties, Halloween costume celebrations, and of course, many karaoke nights, so frequently that her children would know when something was amiss if a weekend passed without a gathering. While living in San Diego, she would visit the beaches often, prepped with a picnic blanket and a meal for the entire family to enjoy. She always felt most peaceful listening to the waves and watching the sun set over the horizon.
Irma had a love for music, often going to concerts with family to see artists like Taylor Swift, Pitbull, and Imagine Dragons. Her favorite ringtone was “Hooked on a Feeling”, but her Minions ringtone brought smiles to her children, while “You’re Still the One” by Shania Twain held special meaning for her and Manuel. Irma’s favorite character was Groot, her favorite color purple, preferably with sparkles, reflecting her vibrant and sparkling personality. She also had a fondness for attending Comic-Con events in San Diego nearly every year, often waiting hours in advance to attend panels. Shopping adventures on Craigslist were another highlight, memorable for once acquiring their family dog Jax and a tale that nearly led to an arrest involving purchasing tickets for Comic-Con from an undercover officer.
Irma is survived by her loving husband, Manuel Del Olmo; her children, Amanda, Emmanuel, and Sarah; and numerous siblings who remember her as a beacon of love and generosity. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adan and Carmen Nieto.
Irma’s life leaves an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her unwavering devotion, unparalleled generosity, and radiant spirit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. Her legacy endures in the hearts of her family and all the lives she touched with her compassion and love.
