Homer Joel Cortez, Jr., born on October 23, 1977, in Harlingen, Texas, was a beloved son, father, and brother whose hands were as skilled as his heart was large. He passed away on February 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and creativity that touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Homer dedicated his career to being a handyman and a mechanic, where he not only excelled but thrived, finding joy in working on cars and tinkering with all sorts of machinery. His passion for working with his hands reflected not only in the quality of his craft but also in the warmth and care that radiated from him as he engaged with those around him.
Homer’s welcoming personality had the remarkable ability to make others feel at ease, with his kind demeanor and willing spirit embodying the essence of generosity. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, ensuring that anyone in need felt supported in their time of uncertainty. His spirit of giving was a testament to the deep love he held for his family, which always came first in his life.
He cherished his family dearly, and they were his greatest pride. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Riley Deiorio; sons, Sonnie and Phillip Cortez; and grandson, Noah Deiorio. His loving parents, Homer Cortez, Sr. and Nora Cortez, along with his brothers: Bryan (spouse – Jan), Stephen, and Adam Cortez, were a significant part of his life, providing him with love and support in every endeavor. Homer also embraced the strong bonds he shared with his paternal grandparents, Maria and Gregorio Cortez, and maternal grandparents, Frances and Raynaldo Galvan. He was deeply connected to his extended family, including uncles Dr. Gregorio Cortez, David Galvan, Ray Galvan, and Rick Galvan, as well as his cherished aunts, Sylvia Jones and Cynthia Estrada.
Homer Joel Cortez, Jr.'s warmth, creativity, and kindness will be missed profoundly, but his spirit will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched. As we remember him, we celebrate not merely a life that was lived, but a legacy that he leaves behind in the hearts of his loved ones, one filled with artistry, love, and a commitment to making the world a little brighter for everyone around him.
